This sale is for a …….Vintage 1950s-1960s Halliburton Aluminum Suitcase w/Fitted Tan Cloth Interior This is a vintage (or “used”) suitcase which is in good shape for its age. See all pictures below (hopefully on a computer and NOT a phone) to get a good idea about this former “TWA crew” suitcase. Please scroll down through 30 pictures; text between most pics. The picture above (with the suitcase !) was taken in 1954 in honor of the one millioneth passenger anniversary ! OK, the suitcase in the picture above probably is a “brother” to the one being sold here. This is a Halliburton aluminum hard-side case. This case is the “luggage” edition and is hard to find in 2023. The following is from Wikipedia: “Erle P. Halliburton, founder of Halliburton, commissioned the aluminum case in 1938 from aircraft engineers because other luggage could not endure the rough travel through Texas oil fields in a pickup truck . In addition to being more durable than a leather or cloth case due to its rigidity, the aluminum case seals tightly against dust and water.” This vintage suitcase has the smaller snapping hasps as shown above; more modern cases have more square shaped hasps. The picture above and many below show the various layers of cloth lining, dividers and pouches inside the suitcase. One of the hooks (shown above) even shows the Halliburton logo impressed on the aluminum surface. In the picture above (in the upper right hand corner) you can see a stain which is about 4″ x 4″. A close-up of that stain can be seen severals pictures below. The reddish stain shown above (about 1″ in size) is probably nail polish. The 2 pictures below show 2 more similar stains. One of the short sides of the suitcase has a longish, zippered pouch for miscellaneous small items. This pouch is also shown in the 2 pictures just below. This case uses a key (included); more modern cases have combination locks. The Halliburton logo shown just above the key lock is dented but is easier to read than it is in the picture above. Outside measures 24″ X 18 ½” X 8 3/4″ Inside measures 23.25” wide x 17.5” front to back x 7.5” deep (3.75” each half) The picture above and those below show the many scratches on this well used suitcase. If only they could each tell their stories ! The lengthy “piano” hinge is in good working condition. All the feet are still attached and not loose as shown above.
